This is a warning! Please read to the end before closing. I have noticed something that I have to address and this is my forum for doing just that.
I want to ask you something that I was asked one time as a rhetorical question. It completely wrecked the way that I conducted much of my life. What are you willing to accept as "ok"? How much of it is causing unseen chaos in your life? There was a recent film that came out in the movie theaters that made me realize just how morally bankrupt our society has become. You probably know which one I'm talking about. If you did see it keep in mind, I AM NOT PASSING JUDGEMENT ON YOU! I am simply asking you to do a self evaluation and ask God what He would have for your life.
I know plenty of Christians that saw this movie. So I ask this question: What is the difference between watching a movie about a bunch of male strippers and watching pornography? We all know that the church as a whole looks down heavily on pornography. Furthermore, what is the difference between men and women watching a movie like this with respect to gender? Answer: NOTHING! Its still based on lust. You usually dont hear about women that consume such media because men do not care if they do. More women dont want their significant others viewing pornography than the opposite.
I am not defending men over women as it pertains to how much inappropriate material they view. I am getting to the fact that what is considered "pornography" is becoming more and more blurred. There are even people that say its "just entertainment". I have to adamantly disagree. NO ONE should be watching anyone else being intimate with their husband/wife. In Genesis 9, Noah cursed his grandson Canaan just because of Ham seeing him naked and telling about it. There are people that spend hours and hours of their time trying to shake an addiction, for lack of a better phrase, to pornography. Then people say that it is just entertainment. I am speaking from the voice of experience. I had a problem with pornography for many years. IT IS NOT JUST ENTERTAINMENT! Satan is a liar. So much though that there is no truth in him at all. The thought that porn, at any level, is just entertainment is a LIE!!! In a romantic relationship, there are always consequences for looking at something like that. Somebody is not getting the affection that they desire from the other person whether they realize it or not. My experience backs this up.
I didnt really pay much attention to the display of moral bankruptcy in all of this until I saw the following picture caption by a Christian on a social media site, "Dear God, Im not asking much but could you make Magic Mike in IMAX-3D. Amen"
Are you kidding me? You want your porn in high definition where you feel like you can reach out and touch it? When we put on that label to the world of Christian, we have a responsibility not just to God, but to other Christians to uphold our testimony. If there is one thing that I have learned, its that what one Christian does so is assumed about the rest of them. Our first responsibility is to Love! (Matthew 2:37-40) Secondly, we are to seek God above all else. (Matthew 6:33) I am not sorry if I sound like I am being mean. Do I want you to feel bad? Of course not! We were given grace so that our slate would be wiped clean AND we could have freedom from the urge to sin. (Romans 6:1-4) Jesus said that whatever is truly in your heart will be what comes out of your mouth. (Luke 6:45).
In 2 kings 23, Hilkiah the priest finds the book of the law and reads it to King Josiah. At this point, the king goes absolutely aggro with his renovations of the kingdom. Anything that was not pleasing to God according to His word (the Law at that time), was destroyed or driven out. There was no compromise in what he got rid of. We have to be of a similar mind if we are going to be able to function properly in the Kingdom of God, we have to put away the foolish, sinful, worldly things that take our attention away from Him. I am not saying that you have to live off the grid with no joy in your life. Lets just say that I love me some balance!
In closing, I use this blog for many reasons. First, I use it to hopefully show anyone that stumbles upon it that there is God that loves us all. Even though we are sinners. Secondly, it is a tool for discipleship. In Matthew 28, Jesus gives the Great Commandment: to make disciples of all nations. I say this because I want you to know, as I said before, that I am not condemning or passing judgement on you. If you feel as though I am, I apologize. I encourage you to assess your life and what you do in your spare time. Getting rid of some of the things you put before God will benefit you in more ways than you can imagine. I know, I did it. It can help to make you a better spouse, leader, and friend. Go forth, prosper, and do long division or something!!
Grace and Peace of God be with you ALWAYS!!!
