Evangelizing with Love

Yesterday, I was listening to a Christian radio station and there was a conversation going on between the two radio personalities that caught my ear.  Brant Hanson (male DJ) was having a discussion with his female coworker whose name escapes me.  The topic was the things that Brant had said over the years that had offended people.  The shocking thing was that most of what offended people was when he quoted Scripture.  The one in particular that he mentioned was in Luke 10 when the lawyer (we'll call him Jim) asked Jesus what must he do to inherit eternal life.  Mr. Hanson quoted scripture directly and loved how simple it was.  Someone actually called in and "informed" him that you also have to evangelize.  That got me thinking.  To evangelize, as it pertains to Christianity, means to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world.  That sounds like a HUGE undertaking but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
First off, what was Jesus' response to the man's question about eternal life?  He asked Jim what he thought about it.  Jim recited the Great Commandment and Jesus told him that he had spoken correctly.  For our purposes we won't go any further in that passage.  There is ALOT going on in this story so lets just stick with these 4 verses.  Lets ask ourselves a question: What does it mean to evangelize?  We've already covered that at the end of the last paragraph.  Now, the word Gospel itself means the good news, glad tidings of salvation through Christ.  Basically you could say that its telling the story of Jesus and how we receive salvation through His sacrifice.  What emotion do you think that it takes to deliver such a wonderful message to hookers, thieves, murderers, etc. the way that Jesus did?  LOVE!  Bring it back around to the beginning, We are to love God with all that we are, hold nothing back.  Then to love others enough to give them the message of salvation that you yourself have received.  You wouldn't have wanted the one that "won you to Christ" to overlook you even though you were yet a sinner.  Evangelism, AND NOT CONDEMNING PEOPLE IN THE PROCESS, is showing a great, yet very simple form of love.  Therefore the evangelist is fulfilling the Great Commandment and receiving eternal life.
Back when Jesus was walking the earth in the flesh, He had to deal with the Jewish leaders.  A bunch of pompous, arrogant, self righteous bullies that had over time taken the Law of God and turned it into a system of who was in and who was out so much though that you were always considered unclean according to their system of fabricated laws.  People would come up to the temple and ask if they were unclean or not and the Sadducees would find something wrong with them.  Dandruff, poor eyesight, giving birth, sitting in a chair 3 days or less after a woman on her period had sat in it all made you unclean.  If the person asking about their cleanness didnt bring a sacrifice with them, they were in luck.  They could buy a sacrifice from the Sadducees (conveniently).  They were using religious guilt to make money.  Sound familiar?  These things are a majority of the reason that I did not attend church for a LONG time.  What do you think that Jesus did about these people selling sacrifices in the temple?  Matthew 21:12 "TheJesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves."  Spotless doves were used for sacrifices.  I am not saying to go in to a church that you think is doing this sort of thing and break their stuff.  That's vandalism and illegal.  What I am saying is that we do not need to make a complex system of stuff that we say gets us close to or pushes us away from God.  John 3:16 says that He so loved the WORLD!!! Sinner, saved, Muslim, Christian, black, white, male, female...He loves us all.  He was, is, and will always be loving of us all.  WHen we accept the sacrifice that His son Jesus made and Love Him as well as His children, we have then received eternal life.  Just try telling someone that you love them.  Buy a kid a candy bar, pay for someone's gas, hold a door for someone even if it inconveniences you.  You will begin to feel something inside that you might have never felt before.  Its genuine, passionate, crazy LOVE!  Here's my favorite part!!!  When you show love to some one love whether they deserve it or not, you are showing them what God Himself looks like.  1 John 4:8  "He who does not love does not know God, FOR GOD IS LOVE!  Grace and peace be with you always!
