It seems that we are all looking for something. The major question of life is, "How can I be happy?" We look for these things constantly, and sometimes no matter what the cost. The problem is that we are looking in the wrong direction. What I mean is that we are looking for something that does not exist in this world. The fact is that we have a hole inside of ourselves. That hole has been filled with an infinite number of things over the years: sex, drugs, rock & roll, jobs, hobbies, golden calves, etc. I went down that road soooooooooooooo many times only to end up empty handed. That is one of the most sickening feelings that I have ever experienced. The really bad part is that when we find that it doesn't fill the void, we try and get more and more of it thinking that the more we get, the more the void is filled. Ever wondered why people that are unfulfilled with sex have so many partners? The simple fact of the matter is that (yes, I am repeating myself) the filler of that hole does not exist on earth.
What we look for, search for, hunger for, yearn for is simply the experience of an up close encounter with God Almighty. Call it "catching the Holy Ghost", getting "messed up", whatever you like. That is the only thing that can properly fill that void that is left inside of us after trying to fill it with the world. The problem with that is that we are always trying to get God to come. Where did He go? He go on vacation? Doesn't the Bible say that He is Everywhere at all times (Omnipresent)? Psalm 139:7-8 "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there." It only stands to reason that He is everywhere.
With saying all of that, I want to talk to you about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As always, there are a million things going on. I am not going to attempt to cover them all because I do not know them all. We all know that Jesus was the Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world. That was proclaimed by John the Baptist at Jesus' baptism. A sin offering was to be a spotless lamb, no blemishes, all that jazz. Furthermore, none of its bones could be broken...ever. Jesus lived a sinless life and never broke a bone. Even when he was beaten and crucified.
Speaking of crucifixion, let's talk about that. Please bear with me, I am getting somewhere with this. Look at Luke 23. Jesus dies, there is darkness in the land, and the veil is ripped in two. Incredible imagery when you think about what God said about Himself and the way the Old Testament people behaved in mourning. God is Light, and in Him is no darkness correct? Does Scripture not also say that God, The Father, turned His head when Jesus died? Light turned away from the world that He created because of His grief. Therefore, there was no light to shine on the world because Light had turned away in grief.
Here's where it gets GOOD! The veil was ripped into two pieces. Two things that I want to point out here. First off, the veil in the Temple was what was draped in front of the ark of the covenant. The ark was where the presence of God was. Essentially, the veil was God's clothing. Jesus dies and the Father rips his garment just like they did in the Old Testament as a sign of mourning. Also, here's the point of all this, there was no more separation between God and mankind. The veil was no longer needed. We are free to experience this at any time that we want. I know it sounds crazy, but if it is crazy, you can have sanity. I do not want it anymore.
That hole in me does not exist anymore. It is filled with the first fruits of God Almighty. He fills the void and overflows on a regular basis. I would not have it any other way. I invite you to take some time out of your day and put some music on, open your bible, or just tell Jesus you want to feel His presence. You will never be the same again. Do not worry, you will freak out at first. Your flesh cannot handle it. Your spirit, however, He is the very thing that it needs. Seek His presence. Crave it, welcome it, and give the boot to all things that hinder you experiencing Him.
Grace and Peace be with you ALWAYS!
