What does the phrase breaking the law mean to you? Violating some sort of rule set forth by a governing authority over the majority of people, right? Well please pardon me, but I'm probably about to fry your brain. If you do not have a scientific, analytical mind then you may want to stop here. If you dont have that kind of mindset and you're still interested, please feel free to continue.
Take the concept of a law out of the legal though process and put it in science. Now, what is a law? It is a proven fact that is concrete and binding. This is the way that it is all the time. Law of Gravity ring a bell? You can manipulate the crap out of it, but whatever goes up MUST come back down at some point. Does that mean that there is no way for it to go up? Most certainly not! You can go up if you operate inside the (here's that word again) LAWs of physics. Gravity is a force pulling things toward the ground, but thrust, lift, and surface area of the moving object is how you get things off the ground. So, working with in the laws of physics, you can do just about anything. We cant just randomly get off the ground by will power.
HERE'S THE FUN PART!
What is the very common term for the guidelines that God gave to the children of Israel, including but not limited to the Ten Commandments? The Law! So what parallel can we draw here? HISTORY LESSON TIME!!! Israel was in Egypt for over 4 centuries. They were beaten, raped, murdered, and generally had their dignity taken away so that they were viewed as less than human. Then this god named El Shaddai sends Moses to Egypt to get them out. After leaving Egyptian captivity and crossing the Red Sea, they come to Mt. Sinai. After four centuries of silence, El Shaddai tells them that he wants to "multiply them inside the hedge of praise and submission" (study the paleo-hebrew alphabet, its FASCINATING!). To put it simply, He wants to make them bigger, but there's a certain way to do it. If you think about the fact that the Bible was written in the space time continuum of human history, you will soon realize that Leviticus was one of the most gracious books ever written. Research what some of the ancient gods and goddesses would "require" of people to make them happy.
So back to the exodus from Egypt, God hands down the Law saying that I want to give you the best life! A life of dignity, love, and peace with yourself, your house hold and those that live around you. Here is how you do it. Dont kill each other, stay truthful to your word, dont steal each other's stuff, etc. If you do this, you will have a good life. If you do not, your life will suck! We are never going to completely do all of that stuff all of the time, but that is why His grace is there.
Basically my point is this, God didnt hand down a bunch of rules for us to follow. He didnt do it just so he'd have a reason to be mad at us. Unlike the other supernatural entities that clamored for the Jew's worship, El Shaddai was the first one to say, "THIS IS HOW YOU GET CLOSE TO ME!" He wanted us to have the best life. He wanted us to have a life that was filled with joy, peace, happiness, kindness, generosity, and prosperity. He made the universe, so He obviously knew what would work inside those parameters that He set up.
Just remember, the Ten Commandments was not ten conditions on God loving us. It was ten proofs that He already does.
Grace and Peace be on you!
