I was out in my yard recently and saw this giant mushroom/fungus looking thing and didn't think anything of it. THe second time that I was in the yard, my wife kicked it over and it came right up. I happened to look at the bottom and the picture is what I saw. Very Small Roots! What is the purpose for this fungus? Unless you have a PhD in fungal biology or something the answer is probably NOTHING! It serves no purpose. One thing that it can do is spread until it reaches the very large oak tree next to it and ultimately destroy it. It was at that point that the Lord spoke to me and kind of expanded on the parable of the sower.
We all have different areas of our life where things are planted and growing. Some are good and some are not so good. The thing we have to figure out is who planted them and what are they good for. As a child, I didnt have the best life in the world. I faced bullying, rejection, humiliation, etc. that planted seeds in my life of awkwardness, fear, and VERY low self esteem. After becoming an adult, I began to draw nearer to God and begin my walk with Him. Those things that were planted in my past were still there and made it more difficult for the Word to really take hold of my life. I thought that I was doing fine (ish). The point here is that those bad things that have taken root in our life, even though they may not have roots that are that deep, they can ultimately try and destroy you and kill any good fruit growing in you planted by God. Remember the thorns in the parable that Jesus told? The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Given that, dont you think that when you are sewn with God's word, its going to take root pretty deep right?
Therefore we sow the Word into our finances, but still are sowing anger, hate, slander to our work life. WHat do you think is going to happen over time? Your work life is going to die (you get fired) and the fungus is going to spread to your finances because you have no way to make $.
Our whole lives are intertwined together. What we sow in our lives, no matter how small is going to somehow effect the rest. Question: What do we do? Follow the example of the Gardner. Uproot those things that have been holding you back. If it's stuff you say, its easier than you think. (Voice of experience speaking here) When people you work with are sitting around gossiping about whoever is not there, politely get up and walk away. Find yourself having some sort of addiction? Take the object of addiction away from you. Kick the fungus out of your garden.
How do I do that? Its so hard! Yeah, I know. If you are having trouble kicking it out, get in touch with a spiritual elder. They aint perfect, but they might have some advice for you and I'm sure that they'll pray for you. Its called discipleship. It's the Great Commission. One of the last things Jesus gave us to do before He ascended to prepare the place for His bride.
I hope that you have an easier time weeding your garden of life than I did. I bless you to know that God is bigger than any weed that mankind has ever dealt with. He's bigger than your finances, your addictions, etc. He can kick them over with less ease than my wife did that fungus.
Grace and Peace be with you ALWAYS!!!
