Matthew 14:22-33
Do you have enemies? Do you have things that try and overtake you on a daily basis? Has your faith seemed shaky even though you keep telling yourself everything is ok?
I can answer a giant YES to all three. If you answered no to any of them, I want to shake your hand and interview you. For the rest of us, LETS GET INTO THIS!
The scripture referenced above is about Jesus and Peter walking on the water. Awesome miracle if you ask me. Tried it a few times, still no luck. Anyway, there is alot of symbolism and parallels that I am about to draw out of this. On the surface, no pun intended, this is about Jesus walking on water and Peter being called from the boat to join Him. Peter starts focusing on the size of the waves, starts to sink, Jesus saves him. There's more to it than that.
First off, you have 12 guys on a boat going across a lake that is being tossed and turned by the waves because the wind was gusting pretty hard. Naturally, these men are concerned for their safety. They have things that are constantly trying to get at them and they are frightened by these things. Same thing happens when Jesus was asleep while crossing the Sea of Galilee. Disciples freak out because of bad weather.
Second, there is a Jewish Rabbi, the Son of God, the Savior of all Mankind is trampling on the very thing that is threatening those He loves. Jesus never plays nice to those that are messing with His people.
Third, while Jesus is still using the very thing that is threatening them as a foot stool, He invites Peter to come and so the same. He is giving Peter the authority to stamp out all the things threatening him.
Question: What happens when Peter starts thinking about how big the waves are? HE FALLS!!! Peter gives the waves credit for what they appear to be able to do. Then he needs Jesus to rescue him from those things that threaten him from taking him over.
We all have waves! We all have stuff that seems like its big enough to take us out or that all of them are piling up against us. There's only one of us and many of them. Right? WRONG! I have a question for you!
WHOSE YER DADDY??? Come on, you gotta answer. Whose yer Daddy? Fear or Jehovah-Nissi (The Lord my banner)? Hate or the God that is Love? Unforgiveness or the compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiveness God? I can tell you that my Daddy is EL SHADDAI! He is God Almighty. He defeated mighty kings with the smallest of armies. He owns the cattle of a thousand hills. He has all that I ever need because He IS Jehovah-Jireh (the Lord my provider). He has me surrounded by angels that will prevent me from hitting my foot against any obstacle that Satan puts in front of me as long as I continually seek HIM!!! I also know that those angels will stomp a mud hole in any demon that gets close to me if I tell them to. I'll ask you again: WHOSE YER DADDY!!! If you answered similarly to what I did, THEN START ACTING LIKE IT! Most know better to mess with a king's kid. We are the child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
I bless you today to know that God does not take kindly to people hurting His children. It's time we all realized who He is and who we are in Him. Waves, guns, bills, sickness... they all pale in comparison to His Glory. Seek Him and all those things that try and take you under will cower in fear!
Grace and Peace be with you ALWAYS!
