Throw Away Your Box!

What is God to you?  What do you think about Him?  Is He all powerful?  Is He with you one minute and not the next?
I ask these questions to provoke a discussion about that very subject.  Throughout time, man has been trying to define EVERYTHING!  Weights, time, distance, and even God Himself have been victim to this sort of thing. The comical part about all of this is that our finite (limited) minds cannot hope to even come close to accomplishing a task such as that.  That point brings me to the scripture that is the basis of this rambling of mine: The commandment that says basically, DO NOT HAVE IDOLS!
That is a very simple command to keep on the surface.  Do not have statues in your house that you bow to.  If someone came home from visiting another country with a statue that they worshiped and told you that it was just good artwork, would you have that in your house?  Of course not!  Discernment or not, you would never allow that to be anywhere near your house.  However, that command had more to it than that.
Do not try and box God into something that you can understand.  If you think that He is something that you can understand, then he has become something that man has thought of and is not the creative mind that made everything.  Let me ask you this about the bigness of God: How many dimensions do you have to live in to be in the past present and future simultaneously?  We are four dimensional creatures (3 space dimensions and one time dimension).  Wouldn't it be safe to say that what we term as miracles is just another day in God being God?
God purposefully describes Himself as things that defy physical law.  Physics says to have force you have to have mass multiplied by acceleration.  God says, "I am fire!" Infinite force and no weight.  Fire weighs nothing, but if you concentrate it into a torch then you can cut through steel.  God says, "I am Light!".  How much does light weigh?  I've been under a light before, it weighs nothing!  If you hone a light into a laser you can cut though just about anything.  God says, "I am the Word!".  Words weigh NOTHING but have INFINITE FORCE!  "I love you" "I hate you" "you're stupid" "You're worthless" "I believe in you" "You can do it"
Given that, let's take a second and realize that God does not fit in our box.  He destroys our box into nothingness that it was before He spoke into life.  Let's put it like this.  Let's say that You and I are gonna create stuff.  We say that we are gonna create people.  The world that we are going to create them on is a dry-erase board.  We create man and woman together and we name them Joe and Jane.  WHat is the problem with Joe and Jane?  They are still stuck on the board.  I tell Joe, "Hey, Jane's a pretty woman".  He looks at me and says, "She's a squiggly line! What are you talking about!"
Now, I say let's get their attention and I stick my hand through their world, what do they see?  They see My hand in two dimensions: five dots that converge to one long dash.  THey see that and Joe says, "Did you see that?  That was five dots that converge to one long dash."  Jane says, "No, that was the hand of Brian".  Who's right and who's wrong?  Neither one is wrong.  Was it my hand?  Yes.  Was it five dots that converged into one long dash?  Yes.  But it takes faith to believe it.
I have heard some people debating about crazy stuff.  "It's gotta be free will!  The bible clearly says it!"  "No way man!  The bible clearly says that God chooses us.  Predestination is the only logical conclusion".  Meanwhile, God is sitting back saying, "Hey, do you want me to show you my marker trick?"  Point is, it can be both.  If it's not both, then it's not worth continually arguing about and missing the opportunity to minister to people that do not even know that there is a God that is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love and forgiveness.  He went farther than the ends of the earth to reconcile all things back to Him.
You also hear stuff like, "God would NEVER say anything against what's in the bible."  That's interesting.  In the book of Leviticus, God gives the command not to touch your own poop.  There's your deep revelation for today! If you're gonna be the light of the world, a city set upon a hill, you cannot be known as a bunch of people fiddling with their own poop.  The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel saying to cook food using your own feces as fuel.  How about this one?  The Law also says not to marry Gentiles and to stone prostitutes.  The word of the Lord came to Hosea saying marry Gomer, a Gentile prostitute.  (see: Isaiah 55:9)
If we are going to deliver this ministry of reconciliation to people that do not know it, we need to put aside this pointless bickering and come to terms with the fact that sometimes we just may not know.  Remember, we are all just Joe and Jane.  NOBODY has all the answers.  If we are going to seek the heart of our God, the best thing that we can do is be humble and ready to learn from the great Teacher.  Matthew 5:5 NIV actually says, blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.  Now go forth and love one another, bless someone you don't know and do long division or something.
Grace and Peace be with you ALWAYS!!!
